Rose-tinted glasses (a.k.a. FL-41 glasses) filter the wavelengths of light that contribute to light sensitivity. In many people, this provides protection from the visual buzz of fluorescent lights and, for some, a reduction in migraine occurrence[mfn]Doheny, Kathleen. “Do Tinted Glasses Provide Migraine Relief?“. These aviator-style glasses are flattering to most face shapes, wraparound for maximum coverage, and, as TheraSpecs reports, “are ultra-lightweight and flexible to minimize pressure on already-sensitive heads.”
Indoor TheraSpecs are designed for use with artificial light, including light from monitors and screens. While they are suitable for outdoor use on overcast days, TheraSpec styles are available in dark-tint for outdoor use.
Photophobia, while not a discrete condition, benefits from medical consultation to determine if FL-41 glasses will provide relief. Some people experience increased sensitivity when using them so be safe and ask.
In 2019, I asked an ophthalmologist about colored lenses providing relief, his advice was to experiment with inexpensive pairs in a variety of colors to determine which works for you. Every person, he said, is different and the science has not yet offered consistent guidelines. When you find a color that feels right, then invest in a pair that will properly protect your eyes.
