Australian psychologist and award-winning author Tania Marshall is one of the world’s foremost experts on autism as it presents in women and girls. In I am AspienWoman: The Unique Characteristics, Traits, and Gifts of Adult Females on the Autism Spectrum, she has collected personal narratives of twenty-four autistic women (see below) as well as supporting perspective provided by their loved ones. Together, the stories offer a broad view of the varied yet unified nature of autism in women.
Marshall takes a strengths-based approach to neurodiversity and the book follows her lead. Each contributor lists her personal strengths, her top tips for life on the spectrum, as well as contact info should the reader want to connect. This isn’t a typical collection of stories; it’s more of a celebration of autistic women and an invitation to learn more about yourself.
