#AutisticWhileBlack: Exploring Identity fills the gap and provides a launchpad after adults learn they are, or might be, autistic. Developed exclusively by and for members of the African Diaspora, this culturally informed experience centres our multiply marginalized lives.
THE EXPERIENCE
EACH COHORT:
-
- Is hosted inside The Autastic Community, a private, members-only social network exclusively for adult-identified autistic people,
- Is limited to ten members,
- Includes six weekly, structured, 90-minute live virtual group sessions,
- Includes a private, always-on conversation space for socializing and working through course material together,
- Receives curated resources specific to Black autistic life, and
- The benefits of Autastic community membership.
6 Weeks.
A New Beginning.
This 6-week experience brings together small groups of adults who are in the first year or two of learning (or wondering if) they are autistic.
Together we explore our identities, give context to resources, compare experiences, and unpack relevant concepts — all while building skills and connection.
💪🏿 REBUILD TOGETHER 💪🏾
Your Guides
#AutisticWhileBlack: Exploring Identity is facilitated by Autastic founder and Hawkins Family Disability Policy Fellow at the University of Michigan’s Center For Racial Justice Diane J. Wright. Supported by an Associate Clinical Social Worker who is also an Autastic community member, together we bring:
- Our life experiences as adult-identified autistic Black women,
- The collected wisdom of conversations among the approx. 15,000 late-identified and questioning Autastic communities’ members,
- Education in social justice, mental health, community building, and more,
- Approaches rooted in embodied somatic abolitionism, and
- Neurodiversity-affirming and identity-inclusive perspectives.
